NINETEEN

Sasha

Today, I’ve called a meeting with Dash and Seb to discuss this wedding. I really need to make sure we’re doing the right thing and that we won’t be going through all this planning for nothing.

But I can tell it’s not going to be easy getting the truth out of Seb. When Dash and I arrive at the conference room, he’s sitting in one of the chairs, looking every bit the arrogant douche.

“My wedding planners!” he says magnanimously, waving his hands in our direction.

I sit down opposite him and wait for Dash to join me before I speak. “Uh, hi. I thought it was important for all three of us to get together so we can brief you on the status of the event and ensure you’re happy with the decisions we’ve made so far.”

“I’m sure you’ve done a great job. You don’t need to fill me in on every detail.”

“But we haven’t actually talked to you about any of it yet, and you’ve been staying at the resort for almost ten days now.”

“I’m not here to oversee the wedding—I’m here to support Lola.”

I stifle a snort. Yeah, right. “Okay, but wouldn’t you still like an update on the band? Or the catering?”

“Nope. I trust you both.”

“So, when I next speak to Alexis, I’ll just tell her I’ve talked to you and you’re fine with everything?”

He narrows his eyes at me. “As long as you don’t imply you’ve spoken to me in person.”

“Why would she be upset about that if you’re just here to support Lola?”

I can feel Dash staring at me, warning me not to push things too far, but I pretend not to notice.

Seb sighs. “If you must know, Alexis and Lola don’t have the…closest relationship, and I would rather not have two of the most important women in my life fighting at the moment. Now, if that’s all…” He starts to stand up, but Dash speaks.

“Seb, I have to ask, are you really planning on going through with this wedding? Because if you’re not, it would save us all a lot of stress and expense.”

Seb’s jaw tightens. “I said I was, and I mean it. Now, as I’ve warned Sasha already, it wouldn’t take much for me to have her—or you—fired. This is my final warning. Keep your mouths shut and do your goddamn jobs.”

He stalks out, and I let out a puff of air. That went about as well as I expected.

Dash turns to me, and I expect him to chastise me, but instead, he shakes his head. “What a prick.”

I laugh. “Yep.”

“But I guess we’ve been warned, and twice in your case. We just need to do our jobs.”

“I know, but still…”

“Just focus on the money coming into the resort, and hopefully Seb will settle down once he actually walks down the aisle. We don’t really know his motivation for being the way he is.”

“I guess you’re right…”

“And in the meantime, we’ve got a busy day. Alexis wants us to go into Mackay and taste a bunch of cakes.
